Job Description:
Business Development Activities
• Contribute to strategic planning to identify and manage external promotional outlets (both digital and traditional) including social media, website, press releases, rankings, award submissions, etc.
• Supervise and edit the publication of all external communication material including the firm’s publication, brochures and profiles, newsletters, the firm’s website and material for external publications.
• Tracking and identifying relevant industry organizations and conferences to uncover opportunities for the lawyers to engage in targeted speaking roles and sponsorship options.
• Studying the market in the respective industries with the view of identifying potential clients to be targeted, exploring, proposing and implementing ways to approach the potential clients.
• Assisting with follow-up for client targeting sessions, business development coaching, and social media trainings for individuals and industry teams.
• Mastering internal databases and subscription platforms to conduct targeted research on industries, key and prospective clients and reporting findings.
• Attending department/team meetings as needed to support business development efforts.
• Studying the competition faced by the firm in different practice areas/industries and proposing the appropriate steps to be taken to improve the firm’s standing in the marketplace.
• Daily media monitoring of client industries with daily reports of relevant material to partners.
• Recommend strategies/tactics (e.g. events, seminars, speaking or writing opportunities) that will support the practice groups and their objectives.
• Develop, propose, implement and manage the annual program of events including networking cocktails, client reward events, a speaker series for clients, and other opportunities for interaction with clients.
Proposals/RFP Responses
• Preparing tailored proposals and RFP responses by assessing the opportunity and determining tactics for developing custom content or utilizing pre-existing materials in collaboration with the lead lawyer(s).
• Overseeing the timeline for the production of the deliverables to meet deadlines.
• Posting completed proposals to the department’s proposal repository as well as tracking, assessing and reporting on results.
• Obtaining quarterly outcome updates on proposal and RFP responses.
Content Creation and Writing
• Supporting the coordination and compilation of legal directory and award submissions such as Chambers, Legal 500, Chambers Asia Pacific, IFLR, Asialaw Profiles, Benchmark Litigation, Malaysia Law Awards, etc.
• Gather and organise information on the practice groups (PGs), lawyers, clients/prospects and the marketplace (includes profiles, deal lists, law firm rankings and client contacts) for marketing purposes
• Proofreading all marketing materials prior to distribution.


Qualifications and Requirements:
Skills and Qualifications
The ideal candidate must have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to creatively communicate the firm’s message. A high-quality service, detail-oriented mindset is a must. Legal academic and/or a few years of practical qualification would be an advantage. The Business Development Manager will work closely with the Executive Committee and/or Partner(s) assigned to head the business development of the firm. The Business Development Manager must:-
• Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with high expectations for client service, collaboration, teamwork, attention to detail and meeting deadlines.
• Be able to maintain professionalism and composure even when facing a difficult situation.
• Have advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
• Have the ability to use creativity to maximize opportunities and/or reduce or eliminate challenges presented.
• Have a positive attitude and be confident.
• Be flexible and adapts easily to a fast-paced working environment.
• Have strong business acumen to assist the firm in developing its business and clientele.
