We are looking for a dynamic and driven Senior Counsel to join our Global Banking, Legal team in this period of exciting change and development in the global banking landscape. This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience and exposure in a fast-paced and challenging environment in Malaysia and throughout the regional foot print of Maybank, as well as International offices.
About the Senior Counsel role:
In this business critical role, the counsel is responsible for delivering strategic advice and solutions as well as managing legal risks and protecting the Bank’s interests in respect of the Bank’s exposure in matters related to Corporate Restructuring, typically corporate banking loans, hedging instruments and managing litigation process alongside external counsels in the context of Remedial. Reporting to Head Legal, Group Global Banking.
Key Responsibilities:
• Render sound, effective and practical legal solutions and advice to stakeholders.
• Draft, review and negotiate documents and agreements.
• Provide legal support and be an active value add participant in various credit and asset quality committees
• Work closely with and manage internal stakeholders and external counsel.
• To identify issues and legal risks and provide proactive solutions.
• Keep abreast of legislative and regulatory changes affecting the Bank’s operations.

Qualifications and Requirements:
Key Requirements:
• Degree in law and a qualified advocate and solicitor in Malaysia.
• A minimum of 8 years in legal practice or in-house experience preferably in banking and finance and security laws. Strong foundation and knowledge of banking / financing/ security documentation is a prerequisite.
• Knowledge of Corporate Restructuring and Corporate Rescue Mechanisms
• Strategic in thinking with strong analytical and negotiation skills.
• Strong knowledge and firm grasp of the law and regulatory frameworks.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Passionate about constant improvement and innovation.
• Self-motivated individual with excellent organisational skills.
• Able to work independently and collaboratively.
